The Design District space of Ascension Coffee gets a makeover
After a three-month hiatus to redevelop its space, Ascension Coffee’s flagship location in the Design District has reopened. It doubled in size, taking over the old neighboring lounge space and launched a new evening menu and a new brunch menu.
Ascension Coffee President Bill Schaffler has appointed a new General Manager and Culinary Director, according to the Dallas Morning News. At the helm of the roast is Jessica Keenan, formerly of Allegro Coffee. Jason Connelly is the new Culinary Director and most recently served as Executive Sous Chef at the historic downtown Adolphus Hotel.
With 1,000 square feet of additional space inside, there is much more seating, including tables, high tops, and sofas. There is still the lovely outdoor patio, but the interior additions make the restaurant more user-friendly. Large windows let in tons of natural light. New bistro tables and cool lamps hanging from the ceiling are some new featured pieces. And with the return of the special “half-price bottles of wine” offer for Ascension Sunday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to closing, the new space is perfect for socializing with friends.
Ascension also launched its new evening menu created by chef Connelly. The refreshed craft cocktail menu includes a drizzled cold brew, matcha mojito, and Levitate espresso martini. The menu offers dishes to share such as Latin chicken tacos, edamame hummus, crispy flatbreads, and heirloom tomato toast. You’ll also find reasonably priced main dishes like pappardelle pomodoro, wild mushroom gnocchi, and a wagyu beef reuben sandwich. All are around $ 10 to $ 15.
Opt for the chorizo flatbread with Oaxacan cheese and cilantro pesto. The Pomodoro pappardelle is also a must-have with ricotta balls served on the pasta dish dipped in tomatoes and basil. And if you’re looking for something sweet, you can’t go wrong with the Hot Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Coulis and Fresh Berries.
Plus, if you’re looking for a new weekend brunch, Ascension’s new brunch menu includes $ 12 carafes of mimosa, burger brunch, burnt French toast, and smoked salmon benedict.
