Texas-based burrito chain rolls out plan to double statewide

Based in Austin Freebirds World Burrito, voted by consumers as the most coveted brand for two consecutive years, has announced plans to double its presence in Texas over the next five years, opening enough new locations in just 2021 to make the company the second-largest largest burrito chain in Texas, according to Freebirds.
While the burrito biz has not disclosed the specific number of stores it plans to add, or responded to a request for information on particular locations, a press release from Freebirds says key areas of growth will be in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, although the expansion is statewide.
News of the expansion follows Freebirds’ recent interior and exterior design update, which rolls out across 55 locations across Texas and includes style cues that speak to “deep-rooted pride and heritage.” State ‘of Freebirds, as well as interiors, colorful graffiti-style murals and modern furnishings.
Freebirds has also expanded its menu beyond its robust burrito offerings to include a range of salads, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, meal kits, bowls, and its newest addition: low-carb bowls.

While the expansion could bring the number of Freebirds locations in Texas to well over 100, by comparison competitor Chipotle has over 250 locations in Texas. But given Texans’ propensity to support local businesses, the growth of Freebirds will likely be welcomed by burrito enthusiasts.
