Kevin Kelley’s Kitchen + Kocktails to open in August
Scheduled to open in August 2021, Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley, the dynamic comfort food concept, is pleased to announce the opening of its second location in the United States, which will debut in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The new restaurant, located at 444 N. Wabash St., will offer premium comfort food and creative handcrafted cocktails paired with an unrivaled ambiance, in the prime downtown location. The restaurant will offer lunch, dinner and brunch on weekends in a lively and fun atmosphere for all to enjoy.
The restaurant is a huge hit in Dallas, serving up Southern comfort food and ready-made libations. Kevin Kelley’s Kitchen + Kocktails will focus on fried chicken and lobster tails, shrimp and oatmeal, jerk lamb chops, creative waffle dishes and other revisited Southern classics.
âWe’re excited to usher in a new era of comfort food in Chicago,â said attorney Kevin Kelley, owner of Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley. “We hope to provide a holistic dining experience that will make Chicagoans feel like the South has come to beautiful Windy City.”
the Cross contacted Kelley to find out more about her latest venture and why Chicago is a good bet. âI chose Chicago because I wanted to bring the restaurant to a city that I would be comfortable calling home. I love the city, the architecture, the restaurants, the ambition of the professionals and the people of Chicago, âsaid Kelley.
He added that he was familiar with the Chicago food scene. âI have dined in dozens of restaurants in the city and I am always amazed by the diversity and the quality of the concepts of the city. From Jerk Villa to Maple & Ash, Chicago is by far my favorite city in the world for dining.
Kelley said there had been a surge of requests to move her restaurant to another city, and Chicagoans stood out the most in terms of demand for her food and drink.
A unique dish will be the Tomahawk steak, Kelley said. “It’s traditionally seasoned, or you can elevate your steak by requesting it with a jerk flavor or dipped in our special Asian Hennessy sauce.”
This new restaurant was also deliberate in the way the staff, led by Executive Chef Vanessa Brown, were chosen. âOur goal is to provide customers with a world-class dining experience, while inspiring others in the food and beverage industry to develop and support minority-owned concepts and businesses,â said Kelley. “We hope the city of Chicago supports that we are not just black owned, but that we have assembled a dream team of talent as diverse and unique as the city we will serve.”
Kelley said he would hire around 150 people from Chicago. He said that in Dallas the majority of the staff are young and in the minority.
âThe young men and women we’ve hired to work and manage, more often than not, will never have worked in Chicago’s best restaurants before. As much as we believe in service, so much we believe in developing those who need opportunities and will work hard for our clients. It’s the most exciting thing about coming to Chicago, the chance to make a difference. “
The robust drink program will include specialty cocktails with a distinctive and one-of-a-kind presentation. Several of the cocktails will feature black-owned spirits and alcohol brands.
The 10,000 square foot restaurant, which can seat 207 customers, will feature two bars and a private dining room that seats 44 people. Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley will be open Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
