The costumer of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Bernadette Croft worked with Canadian shoe designer John Fluevog to design the shoes for the series. “I just like the idea of living in a different world than the one we live in,” Fluevog recently told CBC. “Who wouldn’t want to do that? Sometimes the world we live in sucks, doesn’t it? We just want to get away. It’s part of what fashion is and what dressing is, it’s just stepping out of the world we live in.

Croft loves Fluevog’s work and adds to the iconic, minimal quality of costume design. “The original Star Trek uniform is so iconic, including those Cuban-style boots,” she said. “They look futuristic and edgy and are my favorite part of the uniform – such a strong silhouette.”

In fact, boots were also practical for actors to wear. “It was an honor to team up with Fluevog and give the boots an updated look,” said Croft. “The stretchy back makes it easy for our actors to fit, and the rubber soles absorb shock, which comes in handy on concrete studio floors. The leather is soft yet durable. We’ve had countless running and shooting sequences. he action and the Fluevog boots never fail, which proves its quality of manufacture.

Fluevog recently opened pre-sales for the Starfleet boots on its website, but says the style (due to arrive in July) is currently discontinued.

Starfleet uniforms are simple, yet minimalist, updating the classic look. The women on the show no longer wear miniskirts, but leggings with long jackets, and a big thing is texture in costume design.

The premiere dropped on May 5 for the ten-episode series, with the season finale on July 7. The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently in production and is expected to launch in 2023.
