Explosive thrown from Michigan man’s window, victim believes he was targeted for Trump support
MACOMB COUNTY, MI – A homeowner believes his personal politics led someone to throw an explosive out his window on Saturday morning, causing extensive damage to his home. According to WDIV Detroit, the owner – who has not been identified for security reasons – was upstairs in his house shortly after midnight when he and his girlfriend heard a pair of explosions.
The man described the sound as sounding like an exploding transformer, while adding that the explosions made his house shake. Once downstairs, he saw his living room fill with smoke and noticed the damage. Some walls cracked and a hole was blown into the living room floor.
The man rushed to get his girlfriend and a dog out of the house while waiting for the police to arrive.
Surveillance video captured by the owner and a neighbor shows the explosions, including one inside the house and another outside near a car. Homeowner video shows the suspect lighting the first explosive and throwing it into the house just before it detonates. The video also captures the second explosion which didn’t appear to do as much damage, according to the station.
As police continue to investigate the case, the owner told WDIV he believes he has been targeted because of his support for President Donald Trump.
“Some people say because I’m a big supporter of Trump,” he said. “I still have my registration.”
The owner offered a reward of $ 10,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the person who threw the explosives. The victim says he wants to catch the suspect, even if he has to offer a reward, because he says the money is worth finding the person “who is trying to set my house on fire and maybe get me. to kill”.
The St. Clair Shores Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information on this matter is asked to contact the department at 586-445-5300.
