Elizabeth Cortez, 88, from Roswell NM, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2020 of natural causes. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband US Army Ret. Major Alvino Cortez 82 years old and oldest son US Army Ret. Major Chris Cortez 65 years old.
The surviving children are Steve Cortez, Liz Cortez, adopted daughter Lina Cortez and stepdaughter Kathy Cortez. There are 6 grandchildren, Ryan Cortez, Christopher R. Cortez, Sageco Jewett, Chantal Clement, Jadyden Cortez and Robert Cortez. A granddaughter Jessica Cortez and a former granddaughter Kathryn Quiett and 2 great granddaughters Sofia Cortez and Leo Clement.
Elizabeth’s parents are Edward and Grace Sloan from Texas. Elizabeth started life on a Missouri farm and grew up in Virginia. At the age of 16, she joined the Civil Air Patrol and some solos in an Areonca Champion plane. She has a high school diploma and college credits in interior design. His professional experience was with Custom Environments Interior Design Studio, West Los Angeles, CA 198-1979. Additionally, in American Samoa, Elizabeth was director of the Arts in Education program, writing grants funded by the National Endowment of the Arts 1986-1992. His most notable quote, “Stay Home!”
