HONOLULU – Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald today appointed Lesley N. Maloian to a judicial post at the First Circuit Family District Court.
Maloian has been a Deputy Public Defender in Honolulu for 18 years, with extensive experience in felony jury trials in circuit, district and family courts. Previously, she worked for two years as a partner at the law firm of Ellen Politano, representing clients in family justice cases including divorce, restraining orders, alimony, child support. and fatherhood. From 1996 to 2001, Maloian served as an Assistant Public Guardian in Chicago, Ill., Where together she managed a workload of over 150 families and participated daily in trials, administrative hearings, and litigation. criminal proceedings. She also has experience as an Administrative Hearings Manager with the City of Chicago Buildings Department, which she held for a year before becoming an Assistant Public Guardian.
Maloian graduated from the University of Valparaiso Law School and was called to the Hawaii State Bar in 2002. She received a Bachelor of Arts from CUNY Baruch College.
The President of the Supreme Court made his appointment from the list of candidates presented to him by the Judges Selection Commission on June 9, 2021. Maloian’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
