Cruz requests the abandonment of the CDC’s mask mandate on public transport.
Right now, in Texas and many other states, mask warrants related to COVID-19 have all but disappeared.
However, the warrants are still in effect at airports, airplanes, bus stations, and other forms of public transportation in the United States.
In West Texas, this means that the CDC mask mandate remains in effect in places such as: Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, Rick Husband Airport in Amarillo and Citibus in Lubbock and the Texas Tech Campus. .
Earlier this week, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and five of his fellow Republican senators co-sponsored a resolution calling on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to end the mask’s mandate on public transportation, for fully vaccinated people.
Currently, the CDC mask mandate is in effect for all adult passengers on buses, trains, subways, planes, airports, bus stations, and train and metro stations.
Senator Cruz said, “More than 150 million people in the United States are fully vaccinated and mask warrants have been lifted across the country. But inexplicably, the CDC still hasn’t lifted the mask mandate for public transport. It is high time that President Biden and the CDC follow the science and end this mandate to mask fully vaccinated people. Americans should be able to travel to celebrate Independence Day with their friends and relatives without having to follow an outdated and unnecessary mandate. “
Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) is one of the co-sponsors of the resolution: “I recently spoke with two flight attendants about the mask mandate for air travel. Given the horrific and unthinkable violence that occurred on the flights, one of them was frightened by what would happen if she tried to enforce the warrant. The CDC recently released recommendations drastically reducing mask requirements both indoors and outdoors. It doesn’t make sense that someone can go to a restaurant without wearing a mask, but they can’t fly on an airplane without one even if they have a much better ventilation system.
Also cosponsoring the resolution, Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).
A lifting of the CDC’s mask mandate was not recently discussed by the Democratic Party leadership.
