When it comes to eye-catching outfits, “Bridgerton” Season 2 has more than one “season diamond.” While the popular period drama’s second season might not have as many ripped bodices as season 1, there’s no shortage of candy-colored dresses with embellished bodices, in addition to jewelry, shoes and more. Again. After all, when it’s not setting Netflix ratings records, “Bridgerton” Season 2 is setting trends with its fashion-filled episodes.
With the show already renewed for Season 3, the aesthetic inspired by early 19th century regency era styles – regencycore – is seeing its own renewal lately. So if you’re wondering how to merge “Bridgerton” style with modern style, we’ve gone straight to the source – and, no, we’re not talking Lady Whistledown. Here’s the inside scoop from “Bridgerton” Season 2 costume designer Sophie Canale on the show’s styles and their regencycore counterparts.

What is Regencycore?
After the breakout season of “Bridgerton” last year, there was a surge in demand for corsets, empire waist dresses and other Regency-influenced styles. The history-inspired trend has stood the test of time, a longevity that Canale attributes to its “elegance.” While there are “so many different kinds of ‘core’,” including TikTok’s famous aesthetic like cottagecore, Canale says “a lot of other kinds of ‘core’ looks are daywear, and I think that with Regency core, it really pushes the limits.”
Just as regencycore blends modern and regency elements, “Bridgerton’s” styles are not entirely historically accurate. There were approximately 750 outfits created for the show’s main characters, and the actors had four fittings for each dress or vest they wore. “It’s really nice to be able to play with period silhouettes, but also add contemporary elements,” Canale says of the series’ “not period correct” style. Rather than sourcing textiles from the Regency period, Canale uses contemporary fabrics for the show, making it even easier to recreate the looks at home.
If you’re hoping to add a little regency to your wardrobe this spring, consider these must-haves.

Try a silk dress or an empire waist model
Alert the ‘ton: Empire-waisted dresses are about to be fashionable again. “I was looking for different contemporary sleeve shapes to mix up the empire line dress [this season] which hopefully can also be used in a more modern and contemporary way,” says Canale. Because bling is a big part of the show’s popping style, she adds, you can even accentuate a plain dress by stitching simple beads along the empire line, i.e. just below. of the bust.
For cozy spring style, try the Old Navy All-Day Mini Dress, available in four colors in sizes XS to 4X. On the other hand, if you’re hoping to copy the show’s corset looks without lacing up, opt for Abercrombie & Fitch’s Corset Seam Midi Dress, available in five colors in sizes XXS to XL, or the Backless Dress. open in linen Cora from UO, which comes in three colors in sizes XS to XL. For another maxi dress option with the show’s signature empire waistline, check out the Dreamweaver Maxi Dress at Free People, available in ivory and green in sizes XS to XL.
Be brilliant with gender-adjacent jewelry, especially pearls
While you may have noticed the families on “Bridgerton,” each of the sport-specific clothing color palettes — the Featheringtons, for example, are rarely seen without highlighter-hued dresses — their jewelry also holds a special meaning. “I really wanted to refine the elements that set families apart,” says Canale, who chose a different metal for each family that “kinda represents who they are as people.” There’s ‘hot’ gold for the Featheringtons, silver for the Bridgertons, and rose gold for the Sharmas. Canale also considered the characters’ generations, as mothers “tend to have Georgian-inspired jewelry” at proms, while she “[looked] to more contemporary references” for the youngest.
While we can’t score the styles from “Bridgerton’s” in-house jewelers, who Canale says have done the majority of the bling this season, there are still plenty of ways to nab some ball-worthy trinkets. Because pearl pieces abound in the regency world, consider styles like the Bitty Freshwater Pearl Choker at Pura Vida or the Real Freshwater Pearl Drop Earrings at Banana Republic. Add a little extra sparkle with Anthropologie’s French Dispatch Floating Earrings which feature brass and cubic zirconia, or the Persephone Pearl Necklace from delicate jewelry brand Catbird, which also features delicate beaded flowers. .
Accessorize with nobility-inspired bags and accessories
Turn a sunny walk into a walk with a crosshair worthy of “Bridgerton”, that is, a delicate drawstring handbag. Pair your dress with an eye-catching design like the Topshop Drawstring Bucket Bag, featuring silver mesh.
And while you might not have a tiara tucked away in the back of your closet, you can still accessorize like the belle of the ball with crown-shaped headbands like Nordstrom’s Imitation Pearl Headband.
Complete the look with stockings and small heels
While viewers – and Anthony – get a glimpse of Kate’s stockings during the chase scene, the elegant embroidery on the underwear is not visible. “A lot of our stockings were also embroidered, but you couldn’t see it because they never made a picture of it,” says Canale. While you might not want to wear yours for a muddy tromp through the woods a la Kate Sharma, stockings are “important as a base layer” for regencycore looks, says Canale, adding that actors also wore short floral underwear in keeping with the era.
Try a style like Sheertex’s Classic Super Sheer Tights in Silver-Sparkle, which feature diamond-like glitter the queen would probably approve of. Sheertex passed our durability tests when we tested the brand’s indestructible claims, and the tights come in sizes X-small to 3X-large.
Delicate kitten heels – a “escarpin”, as Canale calls them – are also a key part of the aesthetic. For a pair that pairs well with almost any outfit, consider the Nine West Women’s Spark Dress Pumps in Tan, which are available in women’s sizes 5-12.
